Disaster movies
I just wanted to write this post as a review. If you have any argument and contributions, feel free to comment.
I recently watched 2012. As always, i walked inside the theater with my mind ready to be very critic and analyze the details of the film. Wanting or not, my mind eventually was reminded of two other “Apocalyptic movies”, The Road and War Of The Worlds. To me, 2012 was a more mainstream disaster movie. The human race likes destruction and explosions and they showed it…the movie is full of boombs and bangs all over and once more portray a typical random america family portraying all of it (like War Of The Worlds and The Road). Now of course, The Road, being a McCarthy movie, was much darker and it explored the mystery in the human race more than the actual disaster.
My opinion on 2012? I think it was a good movie, the special effects are incredible. I definably do NOT believe the world will end in couple of years, but if it does, I think its gonna be like that. However, don´t watch it if you expect for accurate scientific explanations like The Day After Tomorrow, or in depth human being reactions like in The Road.
What about you? Watched the movie? Wanna share your opinion? Comment, tell us your voice!

Glad to hear this movie was good.
I don’t think the world will end in 3 years either, I just think that’s a story someone thought up to make a good movie. Or was it the Mayans who predicted it?? I haven’t read up on my apocalyptic myths recently.
And plus, wasn’t there supposed to be some sort of disaster in 2000? Something related to computers?
Still, looks like a cool movie.

Yeah, I´m not an apocalypse expert either, but its something related to the Mayans and how 2012 would complete a cycle. Someone interpreted as the end of the world, but the literal translation was “cycle”, so it can be something else. In 2000-2001, it was like the New Millenium age and many people believed in a great transformation where we would be flying cars and that “Jetsons-like stuff”. That was according to astrology, I believe.
2012 looks fun like all of Roland’s movies, but how can you claim that there was anything resembling accurate scientific explanations in the day after tomorrow? sure, bits and pieces of stuff in it make logical scientific sense, but altogether it’s just about as flawed and nonsensical as 2012.
Well, at least the flood in the day after tomorrow connects to gobal warming and rise of sea level…in 2012, the ground just starts falling…that´s what I mean. But you are right, none ae scientifically based and they are not ment to.
