A sour battle
Alright followers. I made this post because I really felt like I needed to. Recently, Daniel Grieger from GhostDigital made a post about the ¨let me teach you via tutorial effect” where he posted a terrible links section. The action was very insulting to the owners of the websites listed and I knew many of them. Curiously enough, this sour battle took some enourmous magnitude and I ended up being in the middle. In one side, my site was NOT in the list, but many of my online friends and partners were, that left me in an uncorfotable position and I ended up being very controversial in some of my posts. So I would like to make this post to clarify myself about it and to open a discussion about this (maybe to give a last point on it).
My point of view: This is not the most popular VFX resource website in the internet…and it won´t be, but this isn´t the point. This website was made because I sincerely believe that I have talent in Cinema 4D, Photoshop and After Effects and I love teaching. I find that the internet today gives us the great oportunity to let us shares all our strenghts and I always appreciate a new contribution, no matter how basic the tutorial can be. I am very, very critical to myself and the others, I want something that is truly good and for that reason I like hearing comments even if they are not constructive, but leading me to that. Daniel Grieger has proved to be a well-researched artist and for that reason I think his opinion is very valuable, but nothing justifies his post and I want to make sure I say I never agreed with it, although I do find interesting his analogy on being original and not trying to copy AK (which I don´t think anyone listed tries to do).
Alright, now I want to hear from you…
I agree with most of that. Although I feel Daniel is biting off more than he can chew, since he seems to think he is correct in everything he says. He is trained but that does not mean he is right or gives him permission to lash out at us young film makers. :)
I agree with everything that David says. I think that it’s good to try not to copy anybody, but I think you can learn a lot by emulating the AE gods. Not copying, though.

This is such horseshit!
He is not an artist. He uses his school projects for his “reel”. Oh wait, he doesn’t even have a reel. Graduates of any art school has a class reel and he doesn’t even have on of those. Makes me wonder if he went to school at all.
He is also a self proclaimed graduate with “honors” yet he admitted to be only an average grade student. WTF? How does this make sense?

He has a point and shoot camera and knows nothing about color theory and composition for photography yet still calls himself a photographer. In fact, he said to me he doesn’t need composition skills to be a photographer!! WTF? Is he serious? A photograph is a composition!
He puts down everyone for networking. i.e. commenting on each others post and blog. Yet nobody ever responded to him before this bullshit except topher.
He is a no class punk that has a lot to learn about life and will go nowhere in his poor ass hole in his poor ass town that smells like a urinal.
Good luck Dan you ignorant child. Maybe a kangaroo will kick you in the head and knock some sense in your thick ass ignorant skull.
p.s. I still think your photography is shit. If you want, I can do a video tutorial for you to show you how to hold a camera.
I have been asked to respond to this, I’m not sure why. At any rate, here goes…
I haven’t paid this site out as I think it does a good job (I have posted things to you that I think you could challenge yourself with more). As far as my post, people just have to deal with it. It is my opinion and also an opinion shared by many many posters on VCP. As I said in my post, these sites and posters have driven away a lot of the talent that used to contribute to those forums. So this isn’t just my view, it is a strongly held view amongst industry professionals hence why they have disappeared. Sure they don’t reply to my post in rapid over-enthusiasm but that is simply because they do not need to.
These kids can go on deluding themselves that they are VFX teachers etc etc etc for as long as they like, it won’t get them anywhere. And, as long as the sun continues to rise I will be able to voice my opinion and to offer advice. Some have said my post wasn’t constructive, however, for the very few intuitive readers they will be able to see where the construction is and decide to either continue a self-deulded hologram life or actually take steps to forge a career. It seems most have voted for the first option. It matters nothing to me which one they choose.
Alright, one other reasons i even took the time to create this is because i don’t want to overload VCP with this. This is really my last comment on it, we’ve reached some sort of a line in some points, especially when we involved our personal lives. So I hope we understand we live in a globalized world with different points of views and everything we can do is to learn how to live with them.
Also Daniel, I am not mad at you, you just gave me constructive comments, but in some weird way I got involved to wheter you “liked me enough to not post my site in the black list”. I’m not even close to be worried about that, I just think some of the followers and friends needed a space to reflect about it outside of VCP where we were about to be blocked.

If that is so Daniel, why haven’t you given me any advice? The only comment on that topic is, “Where were you trained/educated in design or motion graphics?” That’s all you said. No advice or comments and then you just go and list me as a terrible site. What about advice like, what should be my focal point, what I could do to make the site be cleaner, and look better. Or even something like, “Your gimp videos are pretty good, but you need to work harder on After Effects training, it was kinda lousy”. Yes you probably have given out some advice like on Moviemaker’s thread, but it’s just buried in all the negative gibberish. It comes across more like, “Hey, you suck at motion graphics, get out while you can and go work at McDonalds”. Your negative side far outweighs your positive.
You are so delusional Daniel its not even funny.
VCP are barren because of ignorant pricks like you and tony.
People like you guys do nothing but be negative and never offer any sort of advice that has not been posted before you.
Many members at VCP hate you because of your ignorant attitude. Once VCP is clear of people like you the community would grow like a wild flower.
Do us all a favor and leave. You ARE NOT welcome there by MANY. Thinking otherwise is simply delusional.

Alright, let´s close this debate. I think almost everyone can feel a little more relieved now that each one took the thoughts out of their heads without any censure or fear to be banished/moderated. Let´s hope this events don´t occur again too soon and I wish a good luck to everyone´s websites from now one. Weridly enough, everyone´s websites ended up gaining more traffic with these discussions, so let´s try to use that to release rockin´good content.
Okay Rafael, I guess we got the point across as well as possible. Now if only Daniel could see what we are saying and realize he’s not always right. ;)

Daniel, you have no ground to stand on giving advice on ANYONES photography. You are a point a shoot camera owner and you do not have an eye, heart or head for photography.
If I were you (and thank god I am not), I would stick in bashing people. It seems it’s the only way to get any kind of production out of you.
